Woman Wins $3m Settlement Over Hot Coffee Burn

In a $3 million settlement from a franchisee of a Dunkin' Donuts ©, Morgan & Morgan lawyer Ben Welch reresented a recently retired 70-year-old government employee who had immigrated to the U.S, in pursuit of the American dream. She had worked hard and earned a peaceful retirement. Visiting an Atlanta-area Dunkin' Donuts © in February 2021, she suffered severe burns and life-altering injuries after hot coffee spilled on her lap. The incident occurred because the cup’s lid was not secured. As a result she required extensive skin grafts and weeks in a burn unit in a Georgia hospital. Welch gave the insurance company every opportunity to settle early. The settlement that he and his team eventually obtained brought the justice that his client deserves.
