Million Dollar Breakdown: $11.9M Verdict in Personal Injury Case vs. Penske

In November 2021, Philadelphia local Yvette Torres was struck by a Penske-operated truck while crossing the street on her way home from work. Torres sustained numerous injuries in the incident and has undergone extensive physical therapy and a three level cervical fusion surgery to repair the damage and reduce her neck and back pain.
Morgan & Morgan attorneys Alex Hyder, Hannah Molitoris, and Clancy Boylan declined a pre-trial offer of $2.3 million from Penske and took the case to trial. The jury awarded Torres a $11.99 million verdict, including $10M for pain and suffering and about $822,000 for past and future medical expenses; $625,000 for loss of enjoyment of life; $500,000 for embarrassment and humiliation; and $50,000 for disfigurement.
“The injuries have changed her life forever. For years, the defense downplayed Ms. Torres’ pain and suffering, had her and her family surveilled, and refused to take accountability for the crash. We’re pleased that the jury recognized the devastating effects this incident had on Ms. Torres’ life and awarded her the verdict and justice she deserves,” said Morgan & Morgan attorney Alex Hyder.
